PURPOSE

"A web site by a man too busy to write a book"

Hopefully you have read over the Overview page for this site.  Here I hope to make clear the purpose of this site.

The purpose of this site is to accurately record the senior scouting programs of the Boy Scouts of America.

So far there has not been an official or comprehensive history written about this programs.  What little that is out there does not give a complete explanation of these programs as I'd like.  Most of the collector's works serve as little more then a checklist for what was produced in terms of patches and insignia, but give no explanation of what purpose the insignia was used for or how an award was earned.  Most histories put out, even by official sources, are usually glossy overviews of the programs, and give little depth.  I am trying here to record as much about the programs as I can.  What was their purpose?  How did they run?  What was the insignia used, how was it used and earned?  Why were these programs established and eliminated?  How successful where they?  What material was generated with the programs?  And the like.

For the most part, the information presented in this site is based upon official information (literature, etc.) of the BSA.  The author has tried to make it clear when he is speaking his opinion, or when information is uncertain.  Any assistance in making the information here more accurate is most welcome. Please see the Comments page.

Now that I've established what this site is about, what is this site NOT about?

This site should NOT be used as a source for current, official BSA policies on these programs.  While I strive to be as accurate as possible, my purpose is more from a historical standpoint.  Please make use of the current information available from the BSA.  If you have questions, please direct them to the BSA professionals.

This site is NOT associated with the BSA.  If you have questions/problems/concerns about the BSA and its programs and policies, please direct them to the BSA Council in your area.  Look for them in the Yellow Pages.

While the author of this site is a volunteer member of the BSA, he has no connections with the National Office nor any influence over their programs or policies.
